Lunch Log: Week 166

A “Midnight Diner” episode featured harusume noodles, so I’ve finally made up my mind to give it a go – in particular to help fill me up rather than fill my lunch with rice or fried chicken… the standard recipes are fairly lightly flavoured but probably healthy. This one is a work in progress if it were to stand the rigours of repeating though.

April 11

Trying to be healthier this time: no dessert toastie or deep fried anythings. Lunch is chicken teriyaki, okra, harusume salad, Korean spinach (rustic style) and an umeboshi. With spinach like this going healthy may not be so bad

April 12

The cream croquettes recipes I’ve found don’t actually use any cream but since I’ve used leftover mash it does. So evil. Lunch is harusume salad, pickled shallot, okra, tomato, prawn with garlic and shallot cream croquette, kombu no tsukudani, umeboshi and Korean spinach

It’s that overflowing feeling… This time the soup is chicken stock and miso. I’ve cut down the toppings to broccoli stem, soft boiled egg, chilli slices, okra, grilled chicken and green onion. Also some nori and chilli oil on the side. It is also rather unusually warm and sunny so warm food seems a little silly right now. It tastes good and chickeny though

April 14

Back to basics – I still wish I could eat raw seafood around here. Lunch is okra, tomato, Korean spinach (rustic style), Hokkaido style miso sautéed salmon and veggies, and harusume salad. Lots of flavour with little relative effort

April 15

A bit of a flop this week, but variety is up. Lunch is miso veggies, tomato, soy and lemon eggplant, cabbage namul, poached egg yolk, Korean style beef and harusame salad
