Lunch Log: Week 157

Overall, I think I recovered from beery festivities well (because, the one thing to do is serve beer – that way you can’t really afford to drink on the job). In the meantime, I’ve tried a new regiment and try to make 2 lunches, though there is the added difficulty that the second lunch needs to be hand-held so I’ve settled for wraps. The second-lunch experiment was not too bad, but I don’t know how sustainable it can be thinking of suitable wrap fodder alongside my normal lunch…

February 8

Whew, back from beer festival madness and I’m still in one piece! Lunch is green beans goma-ae, honey-soy grilled chicken with lime mayo, carottes râpées, tomato, stir fry veggies in a spicy oyster sauce and onigiri (kombu no tsukudani with cheddar and hijiki with sesame and yukari).

I know I should stick to one rice ball of this size but the food the past few days were torture without rice

February 9

Shrove Tuesday and not a pancake in sight. But karaage is fattening… Lunch is green bean namul, tomato, nori tamagoyaki, carottes râpées, chicken karaage on shredded cabbage and leek, steamed purple sprouting broccoli with spicy tomato relish (store bought), roasted capsicum, an onigiri and a lychee dessert

February 10

Apparently I have lost a bit of steak (WTF) so it’s lucky I still had leftover curry from making wrap filling. Hopefully this is filling enough until dinner. Lunch is steamed green beans with ‘ponzu’, tomato, carottes râpées, steamed purple sprouting broccoli, nori tamagoyaki, chicken Thai green curry and a lychee pudding for dessert.

February 11

Woke up early to make sushi… for someone else. Me? Something more simple and warm: lunch is Korean-style chilli beef, tomato, stir fried cabbage and leek, purple sprouting broccoli goma-ae, nori tamagoyaki and carottes râpées. Good colour but as usual the lighting leaves much to be desired

February 12

The first lunch in the new mess hall is pasta: goat’s cheese, pickled sweet chilli, prawns, red onion and over-head grilled tomatoes on linguine. The linguine was cooked briefly in olive oil and garlic. I shouldn’t of bothered with bringing rocket: the sandwiches had them as a divider!
