Lunch Log: Week 71-75 (June 2014)
The weather for June has been noticeably warm, which is not a complaint given that modern technology is on your side for climate control! Despite the month being interrupted by beery shenanigans and daft charaben oddness I’m pretty chuffed with the log not being neglected.
Week 71
-
-
After a lovely weekend it looks like a typical grey sky for Monday. At least a BBQ was had: lunch contains cucumber, steamed prawns, tomato, BBQ lamb with miso seasoning and mustard dressed asparagus
-
-
Looks like someone was in the mood for more BBQ. Steamed broad beans & asparagus, cucumber, tomatoes, spiced lamb in a vine leaf, BBQ lamb and yellow capsicum
-
-
Something a little bit different: dessert! Lunch is spinach gomae-ae, chilli prawns, chilli & soy baked sweet potato, tomato, cucumber and a locally grown strawberry
-
-
So much for being more healthy.. Perhaps pickled food would save the day? Spinach gomae-ae, takuan, pickled cucumber, tomato, broad bean (and carrot & onion) tempura in addition to grilled shio koji-marinated salmon. Probably needed more lemon…
-
-
Post lunch is sushi al fresco: decorative maki fail (aka-jiso rice, sesame seeds, ginger eggplant & takuan). Lots of people about; not looking forward to this bike race happening here next week..
Week 72
-
-
So full yesterday, but bonus BBQ leftovers. Wasabi coleslaw, tomatoes, BBQ capsicum & eggplant, asparagus and spiced beef meatballs
-
-
Sushi day: finally got an excuse to use more homemade mayo. Tomatoes, dolmades, steamed broccoli, BBQ capsicum & eggplant and prawns with makizushi (crabstick, takuan, steamed asparagus & wasabi mayo)
-
-
“Summer time is hotter so you lose your appetite”; absolute nonsense! A cold pasta lunch with leftover spiced cabbage roll, steamed asparagus, tomatoes and a Mediterranean ‘sauce’
-
-
The sauce contains BBQ eggplant & capsicum, lemon and olive oil. Rather refreshing.. Now back to work, apps don’t write themselves!
Week 73
-
-
Leftovers welcome in this case: back from beer fest shenanigans and the call for BBQ lamb was too great. Tomato, BBQ zucchini, lamb chop & eggplant with my roast tomato & garlicy fusilli
-
-
Bowled up with the last of this seasons steamed asparagus
-
-
Fusion food: homemade corned beef + gyoza. Lunch is steamed asparagus, tomato, beef ‘sesame footed’ gyoza, steamed peas in the pod and bashed cucumber
-
-
Mostly duplicated from yesterday, still excellent though. Tomato, (homemade) corned beef dumplings, bashed cucumber, steamed peas in the pod and asparagus gomae-ae
-
-
Late lunch; probably too much food today. The last of the corned beef dumplings with tomato, steamed asparagus and 3 onigiri (seasoned nori, miso & spring onion with sesame and green shiso)
Week 74
-
-
A sunny spell cannot ignore the call of the BBQ.. Lunch is chilli carrot, BBQ lamb strips & eggplant, steamed peas, BBQ zucchini and a sift boiled egg
-
-
Prepped a whole chicken mainly for the tasty bits. Lunch is sumac seasoned chicken thigh with spring onion, Korean style soy potatoes, zingy lemon mustard broccoli, tomatoes and takuan
-
-
OK I think I went overboard with shiokoji but at least I didn’t overmarinate. Lunch is shiokoji marinated chicken leg sprinkled with aonori, broccoli namul, tomato, peas, Korean style potatoes with carrot and takuan
-
-
A stupid charaben
-
-
One good thing to come out of yesterday was that there was plenty of lunch items to quickly pack today’s. Same as yesterday replacing the egg with peas & broad beans lunch is: Korean potatoes with peas, carrot salad, broccoli namul and a deboned chicken lollipop with a tomato
* For more detail on the charaben, see “Happy Cat, Grumpy Cat”
Week 75
-
-
I realized that curry last night was quite eggplant heavy but apart from these cute pea ones I’d eaten the rest. Lunch is leftover Chinese style duck, red curry pea eggplant, steamed broccoli & broad beans, tomatoes, takuan and 3 onigiri (green shiso, brinjal ajvar and kimchee)
