Doing my own lunch sometimes reminds me what I was packed when I was in primary school – with 9 to 5 jobs both my parents were too busy to think about school lunches in the capacity to what I’ve been feeding myself nowadays. I recall despising leftovers for lunch with one exception: spaghetti “bolognese” – the quotes are there because it was really my mum’s Filipino version which took tomato sauce literally (though sometimes she would omit the weiner sausages), finished off with a liberal sprinkle of grated cheddar cheese.
These days with the internet I really can’t imagine cooking one like that myself (not that mine is stubbornly authentic), so I guess I’ll leave it to her for nostalgia’s sake if I’m ever visiting…
April 18
A flurry of activity in the morning: but lunch was possible. Lunch is grilled fish, okra, potato salad, steamed broad beans, tamagoyaki, tomato, spinach namul, “ponzu” eggplant and furikake
April 19
Probably didn’t need the furikake; there was plenty of flavours to stimulate the appetite. Lunch is potato salad, okra, hamburgers, tomato, tamagoyaki, wild garlic kale, umeboshi, furikake and miso simmered capsicum and eggplant
April 20
Oh curry, why do you hate my guts – literally? You are so delicious… Lunch is okra, kale with wild garlic, tamagoyaki, tomato, seafood green curry and “ponzu” eggplant
April 21
This is as boring as it gets. I cooked far too much of it though… A very comforting bowl of hot spag bog. At home I’ll still be bogged down with bog!
April 22
Back to normality with a fridge clean out. Lunch is tamagoyaki, kale namul, tomato, bolognese croquette, soy seasoned eggplant, umeboshi and furikake.
