Yay, broad beans are back in season! I am one of those folk that don’t mind peeling each bean as I do like the taste better without the (much beneficially fibrous) skin. It’s also feeling noticeably warmer, so out come the zucchini and eggplant though it was disappointing that our BBQ plans were thwarted by not having any gas left..
We still had some beef mince (yay reduced 2-packs) and by coincidence some red wine that was far too awful to drink as it was so immediate thoughts went to bolognese – this time I was in charge of it. My rendition reminded me of an Italian chain restaurant bog back home; hearty and good. I was surprised that it was still very tomatoey though it was tempting to add 2 cans.

Fresh rice is nice. An attempt to BBQ yesterday was a reminder that we need more gas first.. Lunch is a tomato, carrot salad, garlic cabbage, grilled halloumi, grilled lamb leg steak with chilli relish, steamed broad beans and onigiri (hijiki with hikari, tarako & sesame and umeboshi)

I think I have the supplies to make EVEN MOAR bibimbap for the rest of this week. So very tempting.. Piping hot, the toppings are steamed broad beans, Korean-style spicy beef mince, stir fried onion, garlic zucchini, carrot with hijiki and cucumber and a soft-boiled egg. With kimchee on the side it’s all gone too quick!

Back to something more conventional, though the spiced mince used in the spring rolls made the result extra tasty. Lunch is ginger stir fry carrot, garlic stir fry zucchini, tomato, spring rolls, steamed broad beans and ponzu eggplant

A Stephanie Alexander based bolognese; the recipe is disappointingly short compared to execution but it’s pretty tasty and flexible to tweak. Lunch is linguine bolognese with cherry tomatoes and steamed zucchini. Now if only I can have seconds and thirds..

Hopefully the late addition of fibre is good enough to counter the large heap of carbs. Lunch is garlic zucchini, ponzu eggplant, bolognese with konnyaku, tomato, steamed broad beans and an umeboshi
