One staple I seem to find in lots of the japanese bento blogs are a meat roll that contains a small checkerboard of carrot and (probably french) bean. Similar to the bacon rolls I’ve done, this time I went the whole hog (excuse the pun) and used pork loin cut thin. These wrapped around the vegetables were skewered and then battered and crumbed. After the whole messy business of it all I can see why there is such a market (in Japan at least) for so many pre-made bento items.
Lunch contents: rice with black sesame and radish ‘flower’ with chive ‘leaf’, radish leaf dividers, pork carrot and beetroot roll, carrot and hijiki kimpira, broccoli garnished with shichimi togarashi.
