When I was a kid shopping with my mum I’d sometimes ask for devon for my lunch sandwiches, and we’d visit the deli section of the supermarket. The only other items in that section that I’d know before I was able to cook for myself was ‘sausages’ and ‘ham’; ignoring the other items that even I would of understood like roast beef. Now as an adult I have yet to venture buying pre-cooked roast beef from the shops but I have been enjoying them home-cooked. With a freshly-sharpened knife I started cutting pieces that instantly reminded me of peering into the deli section as a child..
Lunch contents: steamed baby corn, pickled chilli, grape tomatoes, steamed snow peas, roast beef, noriben garnished with carrot ‘flower’ and black sesame seeds.
The noriben this time contains tinned salmon in addition to the usual nori/soy sauce/katsuobushi layers.
