Lunch Log: Week 143

I’ve long liked graphic arts and I have also had an appreciation for tasty food, so it’s no wonder I have quite an appetite for cooking/food porn manga. I guess that my like for Japanese food started when I was a teenager but has – thankfully developed beyond the cliché – moved to also cover categories that is not only sushi. It is my hunch that I tried more ‘normal’ foods to compare and contrast to my childhood*, when there is a disclaimer that it doesn’t use a lot of oil – even more refreshing.

Acknowledging that a love of carbs and freshly fried batches of karaage, this was the week to try something different.

* which my memories** have reduced to salty and sweet and vinegary and generously fatty
** I personally don’t recall many dishes that involved quickly steamed vegetables that kept their fresh crunch

October 19

I’m telling myself to go DIIIIIE-t because getting up at 6am is harder when dark and it’s almost winter-cold. So far I don’t know if either is an improvement… Lunch is veggie and konnyaku nimono with cashews, tomatoes, boiled broccoli, chicken and water chestnuts in oyster sauce and sauteed red cabbage.

Looks like the trick is to end with rice to give the illusion you’ve eaten more of it.. FML

October 20

Programme DIIIIIE-t was probably doomed to fail as long as ice cream is in the house, so I guess there may be no further issues going forward*.. Lunch is steamed broccoli, bulgogi-style beef mince, leek divider, tomatoes, kimchee with red cabbage and veggie nimono.

*unless the other half buys another tub.

Feeling “full” probably due to my waistband, not the food. Attempted to drink more water before the meal too. It’s not the daytime that’s difficult to control: the local pub is on the walk home…

October 21

I know of a now healthy couple that look amazing after switching to a carb-free diet; though I can’t handle that extreme the amount of rice today is depressing. Today’s DIIIIIE-t lunch is veggie nimono, tomatoes, steamed broccoli, lemon chicken nuggets and Thai-style sauteed cabbage (with leek and bean sprouts).

Hopefully the addition of good coffee and an awful concoction of lemon squash with mineral water will suppress the appetite. Not hallucinating rice balls yet, but getting there

October 22

Just enjoyed this knowing I probably used more oil than I should of. Lunch is another DIIIIIE-t sized rice portion with coleslaw, steamed broccoli, tomatoes, piri piri grilled chicken, stir fried bean sprouts and capsicum, and veggie nimono.

Halved a triple-choc cookie with a coworker, then installed a calorie counting app on my phone. Now, to try to reach my goal weight I am allowed to have either a single pint of beer or a tiny dinner for the rest of the day.. FUUUUUUU (not happy)

October 23

Great, it’s the end of sprint and they’ve put out more pastries this time – what a good time to DIIIIIE-t.. Lunch is chicken teriyaki, stir fried bean sprouts and capsicum, tomatoes, sauteed cabbage with garlic, carrot and leek, and veggie nimono.

To top it off my desk is next to the pastries. I think someone is being amused by this
